Most people are unaware of the need to change the transmission fluid and therefore experience problems while driving. Though you don’t have to generally change it so often, it is important that you have a routine maintenance check once in a while.
However, you cannot maintain an exact schedule of maintenance as the transmission fluid change depends on the mileage covered, and generally after every 30,000 miles covered your car needs a fluid change. On the other hand, heavy transport would need to have a transmission fluid change after every 15,000 miles. If you have an automatic car, you would need to change fluid on regular intervals, between every 100,000 miles. Neglecting maintenance could lead to some expensive auto repair services.
When you don’t change transmission fluid, the engine becomes a collection of metal particles and dust that would clog engine spaces, thus making it difficult for the engine to perform well. A healthy car needs a healthy engine and if you don’t take care of it, you will have to spend a tremendous amount in repairing or getting a new engine altogether.
Many people consider changing transmission fluid as a waste of money and thus try to change the fluid themselves, but it is not as easy as it seems, because you need particular tools for this task. Do not attempt to do it yourself until you are very sure of the process. The process is not as convenient as oil change and any flaw could result in engine damage too. You will need a transmission flusher to clear all the fluid and other metal particles. If you are not able to remove all the fluid and there is residue, you will still face problems, therefore spend a little and let a good mechanic do the job for you. This would enhance your engine’s life and it would perform better.
